Be Avenged!

There are some movie projects that should never be attempted. The Avengers is one of those movies. Not because it is a bad movie, but because it is just plain impossible.

Why so impossible? Weaving A-list actors into an equal time and attention scenario. Smashing super heroes together who have been introduced to us through stand-alone films while simultaneously introducing and developing new heroes. Reducing a plot line so large and complex to a single feature-length film. Seamlessly weaving CGI and live action in a way that doesn’t distract the most critical movie goer.

But the impossible was done. And not just by any small margin; Joss Whedon knocked it out of the park, the atmosphere, and all the way to Asgard. Bravo.

When I think about what makes a good movie, I can articulate elements academically to support a conclusion. However, I’m just going to go by two metrics: I was grinning from the opening Marvel logo through the credits (including the two post-scenes), and this movie will join my small and selective Blu-ray collection. That’s the highest endorsement you can get from this guy.

Love watching, talking and writing about movies i've watched. I want to help others sift through critic reviews, so you can watch a movie you may have missed out on because you were misled by a critic.
